In the basic drill series, you will learn techniques and drills, such as how to set your stance, correctly throw a jab, and throw combinations such as a the 1-2 and many more!
To throw a jab correctly, you will need to get your stance set, that is, place your feet roughly shoulder width apart whilst standing side on.
If you’re an orthodox boxer, your left foot should be infront. Your heels need to be off the ground, so that you’re standing on the balls of your feet.
You will then fully extend the arm, tilt the fist 90 degrees inwards, from the knuckle of the thumb pointing upwards.
Like the jab, you will want to get in stance.
Which feet is infront depends on whether you are right, or left-handed.
Southpaws (left-handed) will have their right foot in front.
After throwing the jab, you will throw a straight punch from the rear hand (the power hand), the arm needs to be fully extended, with the wrist tilted inwards towards the chest (like the jab)
The jab will be the leading punch in this combo.
use the rear leg for support, whilst generating power with the hips, rotating forwards from the rear foot position
The slip can be performed in either direction
You will get in, and maintain stance as you perform this technique
Firstly, bend at the knee that corresponds with the technique’s direction, then, tilt your upperbody towards that direction.
The movement needs to be quick, and subtle
Keep your eyes facing forwards as you perform the technique, to gauge the response from an opponent
